Orthotics
Taking care of peoples feet is an important part of what we do here at Westside Chiropractic. Our team is able to provide you with medical-grade orthotics that best fit your needs.
Thinking About Orthotics?
Pain in the foot, ankle, knee, hip or lower back are reasons to consider Orthotics. A limp or a weakness with walking or running is also an important reason to be evaluated. We use the top Canadian Orthotics Lab to make custom shoe inserts designed to treat mechanical foot and ankle disorders. They provide support, stability, cushioning and the correct alignment necessary to keep your feet, ankles and lower body comfortable, healthy and pain-free.
What’s the process?
First, we offer a complimentary, detailed gait analysis and study of the way your foot functions when walking and standing. Then the range of motion of the foot and ankle joints are evaluated to determine if imbalances exist.
If we find issues that an Orthotic will help, we will cast both feet in a neutral position to ensure appropriate correction for your issue. These Custom Orthotics are tailored to your specific issue and will last for years. .
How Do They Work?
With poor foot and ankle mechanics, the wrong muscles contract during walking and running or they contract out of their proper, critical sequence. This is called a compensation mechanism. At first this affects local tissues but over time it can affect more tissues further away. Your muscles, tendons and even ligaments eventually fatigue and fail. This can happen in the arch as well. With this breakdown, microscopic tears trigger a cascade of dysfunction, inflammation, scarring and in some cases degeneration. By correcting foot alignment, your feet can work properly and in a pain-free manner.
What conditions respond to Orthotics?
There are a wide range of issues that can be treated with Orthotics. Here are some common conditions treated with Orthotics:
Achilles tendonitis
Plantar fasciitis
Shin splints
Bunions
Knee pain
Hip pain
Lower back pain
Arthritic toe/foot/ankle
